Dr David Wilson has received a life time achievement award through RWAV for 35 years of service to his rural community.
Dr Wilson has worked as a GP, Hospital Paediatrician, Obstetrician, Police Surgeon, Bone marrow donor & collection support drive, Asthma foundation clinical lead and camp leader, Rural Victorian Generalist specialist Lead in Paediatrics, mental health, and palliative care, and supervisor to interns, medical students, registrars, nursing students, and until recently principal owner of Lister House Clinic Horsham.
Dr Wilson is currently working on a world first nurse led heart failure ECHO programme as lead supervisor in Horsham.
Having arrived from Scotland with his then wife and 3 very small children, Jamie, Ashley, and Nicholas in 1990 in Horsham, Dr Wilson quickly established himself as a kind, caring, competent doctor who is able to tackle many and varied procedures that are falling by the way side in GP land.
Things like doing their own pathology- blood- collection and using a microscope to review the slide personally to make diagnosis. Or the injecting of joints for pain relief or ambulant purposes such as knee, shoulders and necks. Tongue ties in babies having difficulties feeding. A lot of what Dr Wilson was doing (and can still do) has gone to specialist companies or ultrasound or CT guided procedures.
Dr Wilson went on to meet Amanda, his wife since 1998, and had 2 more children, Natasha and Harry. Amanda has been Dr Wilson’s partner in the business managing the day to day responsibilities together. A great team who know the work it takes from their whole practice to support one GP. This award is also a recognition of work done by every single medical support personal who worked at Lister House Clinic, as to Dr Wilson, community one of the most important things (after Family)
Dr Wilson thanks Amanda, his work colleagues, his medical peers and his wider community of the Wimmera for supporting him in & for being such a great community that he has had the privilege of working for.
