Dr Kannan Ramanathan

Dr. Kannan Ramanathan is a Specialist General Practitioner with an impressive 30-year career in various fields of Medicine. His professional journey began in Chennai, India, and led him through Malaysia and Singapore before he finally settled in Australia.

Dr. Ramanathan’s career highlights include his role as Senior Medical Officer at the University Hospital in Kuala Lumpur, followed by a tenure at the Singapore General Hospital. Upon relocating to Launceston, Australia, he worked at Monash for several years before transitioning to general practice. Over the years, he has gained extensive experience working in Intensive Care, Emergency Medicine, and General Medicine.

He is a distinguished Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners, an Advanced Diplomate of the Australian College of Emergency Medicine, and holds diplomas in Geriatric Medicine and Child Health. Additionally, he has a Master’s in Business Administration from Newcastle University and certificates in Dermatology and Skin Cancer.

As a specialist Rural Generalist in Emergency Medicine, Dr. Ramanathan also works in the emergency department at Wimmera Base Hospital. He has taken up the challenge to transform rural general practice.
